Digesting Science is an educational kit and set of activities to teach families, with children aged 6-12 year old about Multiple Sclerosis

Digesting Science attempts to address a significant health issue, namely the increased risk of children with a parent with multiple sclerosis developing the disease themselves. By emphasising the importance of Vitamin D supplementation and encouraging positive changes in family behaviour, the project seeks to raise awareness and mitigate this risk.

The project is a product of a collaboration between various stakeholders, including healthcare professionals, MS researchers, affected families, drama specialists, and science teachers. This co-creation approach reflects the growing recognition of the importance of involving diverse actors in the development of health interventions to ensure their relevance and effectiveness.

The project's international reach and network of external organisations in seven countries (Australia, Canada, Israel, Turkey, France, South Africa, UK) and multiple languages illustrate the global nature of health issues and the need for transnational collaborations to address them. The Digesting Science Ambassador Training program further demonstrates the importance of building capacity among local actors to ensure the sustainability of health interventions.

Digesting Science won the QMUL Centre for Public Engagement Award in 2017.
